True - to be honest there are uglier installations and even uglier buildings in the town. I just think they jar so badly with the beautiful period buildings opposite (the old Grand Hotel) and the church/cathedral, and even the war memorial they are built around; they don't fit at all. They don't look so bad compared to the Civic Centre, so maybe they should have been used as a barrier there! (I just took some pics of the God of the Tyne water sculpture there, will have to get them up on Flickr)

I've decided I like them. The controversy surrounding them I think has actually made me warm to them.

While not defending their cost or even the decision to put them there I now think they've kind of grown into their new home.

I say paint them black and white permanently. They can't get any uglier.

Ahh, what? I got excited cos I thought they were demolishing them. Snazzy new building at the Haymarket being built and those ugly things won't fit in!

I've gotten used to them over the years, but they're still damn ugly ;-)
