Whoo hoo - made Gadling’s Photo of the Day with my Dublin duck shot.
As they point out, it’s not the first time I’ve been featured. Then again their kindness in letting you upload an ulimited number of pics for consideration to their Flickr pool, plus the pressure of having to find a new photo every day, probably means they do get to a point where they give up and pick one out with their eyes shut.
Also the lack of a prize means more talented phoggies might look elsewhere for their ego boost, but anyway…
Below are my Photo of the Day winners to date - Spanning Vietnam, Nicaragua, the Lake Disctrict and, most exotic of all, Gateshead.

Congratulations! ‘Pigs on the pavement’ makes me laugh every time I see it, it’s the horse in the middle that sets me off…

Ha thanks - it was begging to be photographed. I bet there is no one who has visited Esteli who didn’t snap it.
Not sure which one my favourite is. Probably the tree. It seems somehow more sophisticated and zen like than my normal happy snaps.
I’ve been slowly upgraded my camera so hopefully they are improving. Still not quite ready for a big boy’s SLR but I’ve been having a bit play with ourwoman’s and, well, maybe one day :o)
But in the meantime I am enjoying the Canon G7.

My fave is the first one - ‘Hoi An Reflections’ - absolutely stunning colour, and the yellow just makes it a happy shot that always makes me smile!

Meant to add - don’t go all out on getting a top spec SLR until you’ve read the venerable Rockwell’s ‘ Why Your Camera Does Not Matter’ http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/notcamera.htm (great resources on that site!)
Your pictures are fab, and mastering the basics of photography applies to the most basic camera. You’ve got a great eye, and THAT is what makes the photo. Not the camera (and don’t listen to anyone who mentions megapixels, it really doesn’t matter a jot in the QUALITY of a camera.)

Thanks minxlj - I’ll have a look at that.
The only thing that an SLR manages to do that mine doesn’t is get that feeling of depth.
Maybe I’ll get one next year - I like the idea of having a point and shoot as well as an slr. SLRs for mini photo safaris and PAS for everything else.
I am going to Poland between Christmas and New Year and am looking forward to taking lots of snowy shots.

Ooh, Poland! I’ve wanted to visit for ages. Pity I couldn’t stretch the Prague trip over there last year since I was so close :-)
Are you visiting Auschwitz? Not the happiest trip, I know, but important (IMHO)
SLR lenses give the feeling of depth because you can play about with the aperture and focus etc - but an old Nikon SLR is just as good as their new-fangled digi ones. (I would whole-heartedly recommend Nikon, as their lenses are top notch and cameras v.easy to use - the D80 is brilliant value)
I might be getting myself a PAS as the SLR kit is pretty big…but I’m getting a photo rucksack for Xmas which will make it much easier to lug the stuff about.

No, not Auschwitz. I remember years ago going to the Killing Fields in Cambodia and how hard it was.
It’s the sort of place I would like to see kids taken and I remember reading recently of a school trip from the North East. In these days of heightened racial tensions - it seems more relavant than ever.
An SLR? Maybe, one day.

I would be an absolute wreck visiting Auschwitz (or the killing fields, or anything similar) and I’ve even been in tears watching the History channel programs many a time, but I’d still like to go. I think as a kid/teen I just wouldn’t have understood the entire impact as much as I do now.
Cambodia is definitely high on my travel plans; although it’s a little daunting doing it on my own! :-s
