I can’t work out whether I think there is something seriously wrong with modern living or whether modern living is fine and it’s only the people, who really think there is something seriously wrong, that are the real problem.

That is not a problem - it’s a conundrum.
So do not worry about it - time will solve it.

To put it another way - I think there are lots of things I worry about and that wind me up but others think aren’t imporant. And there are lots of things that I don’t think are important that wind other people up.
I can’t help but thing the media makes problems out of nothing. But they seem to apathetic about the real problems.

Unfortunately the ‘media’ are people also and we seem to be going through a period of what they think are ‘real’ problems and we don’t.
But as they are nearly all Southerners, University educated, middle or upper class, old boy or girl network, that probably has a lot to do with it as well.
I do not think they know how to think for themselves and as far an original thought - well keep waiting.
Mind the NUJ might have something to say about that - but most ‘media’ people I have met over my life were educated ‘Oxbridge’.
In the ‘old’ days you had the Daily Herald and other independent papers - now you don’t. Even the Guardian and Observer are changing week by week.
And over the past three months the story is ‘How to talk yourself into a Recession’.
